Private Investigator/Detective Training Courses

Our training courses will prepare you for the role of private investigator and will enable you to apply for SIA registration once this is enacted by the government in the next few months. These courses are priced separately but please see the package price for 3 courses, which offers a significant discount over the cost of the individual courses.

Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators

The SIA have indicated that this will be the standard qualification for registration as a Private Investigator. The Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators (QCF) focuses on:

The qualification also deals with maintaining the security and confidentiality of all information during the investigation. Throughout, there is also the requirement of knowing and complying with the laws and regulations relevant to carrying out investigations.

This qualification is based on the SIA Specification for Learning and Qualifications for Private Investigators and Pre-Cognition activities.

We can support you through this qualification in four different ways.

Option 1 - A 5 Day course covering all of the learning outcomes culminating in an externally set and marked examination.

Option 2 - Distance learning course enabling you to study at your own pace. Supported throughout by an experienced investigator to give advice and assess your work. Once complete there is a 1 day consolidation course booked at your convenience culminating in an externally set and marked examination.

Price £449 + vat

Option 3 - For experienced investigators. This includes an interview to allow our assessor to accredit your prior experience. This is followed by a 1 day revision course where any gaps in your experience can be addressed followed by an externally set and marked examination.

Price £249 + vat

Option 4 - For experienced investigators. This includes an interview to allow our assessor to accredit your prior experience followed by an externally set and marked examination without any further training.

Covert Surveillance - Entry Level

This course is aimed at investigators who wish to gain an insight into covert surveillance planning, procedures and practice. Taken by experienced trainers with extensive police and / or military surveillance experience this course will cover static, foot and mobile surveillance tactics including assessing risk and log keeping. Lasting 4 days this course is run over 2 consecutive weekends and will include practical exercises.

Open Source Intelligence

A 1 day course for investigators who need to gather information and intelligence from the internet. This course shows how to interrogate open areas of the internet to discover information about individuals or companies. Subjects covered will include interrogating emails, internet sites, social media, blogs, telephone numbers addresses and company and business information.

Course Location

These courses will be run from state of the art training facilities with excellent transport connections on the outskirts of Ipswich, Suffolk. Courses are non residential but there are 2 reasonably priced hotels within walking distance of the venue. Special rates may be negotiable so please ask if you are considering booking a room. There is ample free parking at the venue.

If your company is interested in running any of these courses at your own premises we may be able to offer a discount on delegate rates, subject to sufficient delegates registering.

In the case of the Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators you would need to allow access to a room that complies with examination rules and this would need to be pre-authorised.

    In the 18th century, Wigan's status as a textiles, engineering, and coal production centre led to the Douglas Navigation in the 1740s, the canalisation of part of the River Douglas and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. On 19 September 2011, the south building of Wigan Life Centre for NHS Ashton, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, and Wigan Council, opened housing office accommodation, Leigh and Wigan, a swimming pool and fitness suite.
